Video exploring the “anti-distro” concept
I don’t think I really like the term “anti-distro” but this video uses it quite a bit. I would describe it more as “build your own” Linux, in that it focuses on minimal installations, usually without SystemD, such as Artix or Gentoo.
It is about 20 mitues long and I would describe is a Video Essay. Lots of good information and references to take note of and research.
A “Rolling Release” distro to Try: PClinuxOS
I’ve downloaded and messed with some Community Editions of PClinuxOS before, but really haven’t looked into it.
It really has some advantages from my point of view:
no SystemD
No big upgrades between versions, rolling release
But more conservative in the frequency of updates, more stable
Kind of a cross between Arch and Debian: rolling release, but uses Apt for packages
Lots of desirable software packages for desktop use
Active community and forums
Straightforward Goal: it is a Linux operating system for Personal Computers
Also of note, is that the project lead is from Texas in the United States. He also humorously describes PClinuxOS as “the Boomer distribution”.
